Delhi EV Policy: From incentives to mandates – Accelerating the city’s electrification journey

PowerPoint Presentation

The Delhi EV Policy 2026 is one of the landmark EV policies implemented in any state in India. The policy, upon implementation, is expected to accelerate electrification of the two-wheelers (2W), three-wheelers (3W), commercial vehicles (CV) and public transport segments, thus slowing down the increase in aggregate vehicular pollution in the city over the medium term.

  • On June 30, 2026, the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi issued the Delhi EV Policy 2026, signalling a decisive move away from subsidy-led uptake towards mandate-driven electrification. Running from July 01, 2026 to March 31, 2030, the framework seeks to curb vehicular emissions, strengthen air quality, hasten electric vehicle (EV) adoption, and build the charging, battery swapping and recycling ecosystem.
  • The policy moves beyond the conventional subsidy support by combining mandatory EV adoption with restrictions on new internal combustion engine (ICE) registrations in select segments. Effective January 1, 2027, only electric three-wheelers (L5) and N1 goods carriers below 3.5 tonnes will be eligible for registration. Likewise, from April 1, 2028, registration of two-wheelers will be limited to electric models.
